We had a wonderful two days. It rained through Thursday and the sun shined for the rest of the weekend; temps in the mid-70s
and no dust to speak of. The Pro youth race winner was Andrew Souza, with Dylan Wold taking 2nd and Cooper Lehnert 3rd;
all riders on Hondas. The Pro adult race course was 29 miles, had very little road and a lot of new trail. The riders loved it.
Ryan Powell had a one minute lead after lap one then experienced mechanical issues. Brian Garrahan took the lead
and finished in 1st place on a Yamaha, followed by Justin Bonita in 2nd and Devan Bolin in 3rd both riding KTMs.

Thanks to everyone joined us!
Despite the fact that it rained all day, we still had a decent turnout and a great event! Riders left on time at about 9:30 and went on one or more of three "loop options". Those that rode the entire course saw some pretty deep puddles, fresh mud and a little snow. One of the biggest hits was at check #3 where the guys held a group warming session.
Unfortunately, our photographers were unable to shoot very many pics due to the rain on their lenses.
The raffle is always enjoyed, our high hand was a flush. Our raffle would not be possible without the generous donations from our local shops:
Cycle Salvage (530) 246-9135
Fator's Suzuki & KTM
Lee's Honda
Redding Yamaha
Also, thanks to the Shasta Lake Fire Department for the emergency services, BLM for helping us with areas to ride and tech inspection, the Forest Service for use of the staging area and all the others that make this event happen.

We look forward to seeing you in 2011!

Boo! The Redding Dirt Riders Annual Shasta Dam Grand Prix/AMA West Hare Scrambles was held October 31-November 1, 2009! This was the 30th Annual Grand Prix that the Redding Dirt Riders have held!!!
The Chappie-Shasta OHV area suffered major damage from wildfires in July, 2008. The subsequent reconstruction of the OHV area gave us a new course with some awesome new trails. Recent rains kept the dust down despite the weather being perfectly clear and sunny, temps in the high 70's. We enjoyed two days of racing, the kids, women and vintage races on Saturday and the main event on Sunday.
Because our race fell on Halloween weekend, we had trick or treating for the kids, a cake-walk and costume contests. Special thanks to Kathleen for putting these activities together--they were key in making this event special.
Thanks to all that attended. We are planning to run our next Grand Prix/Hare Scrambles April, 2010 and hope to see you there. Keep checking our web site for more pics from this event and infomation about upcoming events.
Special thank you to the following for making this event happen:

We just wanted to tell you what a great time we had last weekend. The weather was beautiful the camping sites were great and everyone was so nice. Thank you for organizing the kids activities, they had such a great time at the cake walk and costume contest and of course getting all the great candy. My husband had a blast on Sunday's race but boy was he tired after riding 3 1/2 hours.
Thanks for a great time

Our first annual June, 2009 AMA Dual Sport ride was enjoyed by all who rode! The weather we ordered was delivered right on time, the dirt was absolutely perfect!
Day one: We left Jay's Market in Old Shasta and made our way north to Lakehead for hosted lunch at the Basshole Grill (thanks Dave!) Having fueled the riders and bikes, we rode back via French Gulch with many single track options along both legs.
Saturday evening we gathered for dinner, bench racing and a raffle at the Oak Bottom Marina on Whiskeytown lake. The RDR chefs prepared Mexican dinner and if you left hungry it was your own fault!
Day two: We left Jay's Market and ventured south and again conditions were perfect. Riding up to the Bully Choop lookout on damp decomposed granite roads was a lot of fun. The views from the lookout are amazing. Then off to meet up with the RDR members who had lunch prepared for us on Steel Bridge Road along the Trinity river. We traveled through the historic town of Lewiston and over the ridge back into French Gulch and returned to Jay's.
Our appreciation goes out to the riders that joined us, the RDR members that worked tirelessly to put this event together (honorable mention to Troy), Jay's Market, the Basshole, Whiskeytown National Parks Service and to mother nature.
If you didn't get a t-shirt or want to buy one, we have a few left over. Just send an email to info@reddingdirtriders.com.
We look forward to doing this event again in the years to come and to our upcoming September Dual Sport Ride, part of the Redding Dirt Riders/NorCal Dual Sport 2009 Shasta Dual Sport Series. We hope you join us!

A quote from one of our riders:
The event was great.
We had a great time and are looking forward to the next one. You guys in Redding are fortunate to have such nice terrain in your backyard, thanks for sharing.
Whoever was running the water truck did a great job . . . my air filter was still clean!
